The Pentagon has dusted off plan to attack North Korea using bombers from Guam.

The Pentagon has a detailed plan for a military strike on North Korea, dispatching heavy bombers from Guam — the fortified U.S. territory that Pyongyang is threatening with missiles.

The plan would be to launch heavy B1-B bombers from Guam’s Andersen Air Force Base, limiting the flight time. U.S. forces have conducted practice maneuvers as recently as Monday, NBC News reported – and have done 11 sets of exercises. The bombers would get an escort from fighter jets providing protection. Satellites and drones would aide in the effort.

Let’s step back for a moment.

Any word from the corporate commercial US “news” media about this? Other than the NBC news story, the MSM wringing their hands over a “new Cold War” while repeating Trump’s “Fire and Fury” speech ad nauseam, not much.

How ’bout some historical context? US imperial armed forces killed 1 million Koreans during the so-called “Forgotten War” (President Eisenhower himself referred to the war as a “savage” conflict) involving the dumping of more than 650 thousand tons of napalm on the country, and resulting in what one US report referred to as “biblical devastation” in Korea.

Or peaceful solutions? Over the past several years, the North Korean government has continually offered to freeze its weapons testing and development program, if US military forces stop conducting aggressive unilateral military maneuvers off the Korean coast. Both the Obama and Trump administrations rejected such overtures. LA-based comedian Jimmy Dore and MIT linguist Noam Chomsky break it down. (And yes, 21st century independent news analysis bring wonderful bedfellows).

“I have seen more blood and devastation than most any other man,” said Supreme Commander of the Allied forces Douglas MacArthur back in the early 1950s, “and it curdled my stomach when I was last in Korea.” MacArthur described “vomiting” at the sights and smells of Korea post-US destruction, in which most Korean cities in the north AND the south were systematically leveled by US bombing attacks.

So when we hear the phrase “fire and fury” applied to Korea, let’s all remember that the US has down this in Korea before.

“Preemptive strike.” We’ve heard this before. It’s an old Pentagon/US government phrase. We’ve heard it before. It is linguistic cover for “waging aggressive war.” And remember, with a military presence in 70% of the world’s 190+ countries,  the Pentagon’s ultimate global goal is “full spectrum dominance” of the entire planet and outer space.

War with North Korea will certainly involve Russia and China.

From there? A new Cold War, as the US punditocracy keeps lamenting? Anyone’s guess.

Short term – peaceful solutions are paramount.

Medium term – let’s grow a 2nd Vermont Republic.

Long term – it is time to peaceably disassemble the Empire.

Free Vermont, and long live the UNtied states of the Americas.
