Donald J. Trump’s victory has laid bare the U.S. of Empire.

Encouraged to run as a “fringe candidate” by the neoliberal Clintonistas (who threw the populist Sanders campaign under their own DNC bus) and manufactured by U.S. “news” media elites, Trump tapped into three decades of frustration and anger with neoliberal pro-corporate globalization policies that have gutted the American heartland. Dispossessed and disenchanted U.S. voters have just elected a “sociopath” (a term used by Trump’s own biographer) to the country’s highest office.

Around the world, meanwhile, U.S. foreign policy elites and the “deep state” pursue a bi-partisan Pentagon policy of “full spectrum dominance,” driven by the desire to control the world’s remaining fossil fuel energy reserves and maintain the hegemony of the petro-dollar against all alternatives.

What will a Trump presidency look like? To answer this question, look past Trump himself and to the people who will surround him: Mike Pence, Newt Gingrich, John Bolton, Rudy G., and the Pentagon planners and the entire apparatus of the imperial “deep state.” Given this reality, it may be true, as Nation magazine’s John Nichols explains, that “Trump may be the most reasonable person in the room.”

What does all this mean for Vermont independence?

It’s time to kickstart a 2nd Vermont Republic.

Click here to watch our 4 minute “teaser” and find out how.

Read our 2VR political platform and principles here.

To our friends, neighbors and colleagues here in Vermont who are women, citizens of color, individuals of different races, creeds, and religions  – we say, in the face of the dark forces of naked fascism that may lie ahead, we’ve got your back. We will work as hard as we can to protect civil liberties for everyone here in the Green Mountains, in keeping with Vermont’s long progressive tradition of “live and let live” tolerance.

And it is time to remind ourselves of THREE deep and abiding constitutional principles lost in the haze of American myth, memory, and history.

Interposition – “the doctrine that an individual state of the U.S. may oppose any federal action it believes encroaches on its sovereignty.”

Nullification – “the failure or refusal of a U.S. state to aid in enforcement of federal laws within its limits, especially on Constitutional grounds.”

Secession – “the (peaceful) withdrawal of one or more states from a larger federal body.”

Free Vermont, and long live the UNtied States!
