We are dedicated to supporting the Indigenous-led resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline!

The Standing Rock Water Protectors are calling for a Global Day of Action against the Dakota Access Pipeline on December 1st to begin a month of action with special emphasis on mass actions for December 5th and 6th.

Central VT SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice), Central VT Climate Action, Upper Valley Affinity Group, the Make, and RisingTide VT have organized 3 ways that you can honor this call in the next week.

1) RIGHT NOW – Sign the petition to Divest Vermont State Funds from the Dakota Access Pipeline, and share with other Vermonters.

2) THURSDAY DEC 1 – Spotlight on State Spending: Stand with Standing Rock
3:30 PM @ Vermont State House, 115 State St., Montpelier
Citizens of Vermont will call on the State Treasurer to withdraw all State funds from TD Bank.  As a customer of TD bank, Vermont is supporting a financial corporation heavily invested in the Dakota Access Pipeline. We respectfully reject the use of taxpayers’ money for a project that violates treaty rights, human rights and environmental rights. Join us in solidarity with Standing Rock on Thursday at 3:30 on the Statehouse steps in Montpelier. Bring a headlamp.

3)MONDAY DEC 5 – March & Mass Action to Defund DAPL & Stop Human Rights Abuses

9 AM @ Christ Church, 64 State St., Montpelier

The governor of North Dakota has issued an order to break up the Oceti Sakowin Camp (the largest camp at Standing Rock), effective immediately. On November 28, police and National Guard used tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper spray, sound grenades, and water cannons in subfreezing conditions against thousands of people. Hundreds of people were injured. Our solidarity efforts are needed now more than ever.

In this action, we will demand an end to all human rights violations against the Water Protectors and their allies and that the treaty rights of the Standing Rock Sioux be upheld. We will demand that dishonest, violent, racist, and unjust treatment of indigenous peoples end NOW.

This action is for those who are willing to risk arrest as well as those who intend to support but do not wish to risk arrest.

Solidarity actions are having a measurable impact and Dakota Access is facing a major deadline. The financial footing of the Dakota Access Pipeline is in jeopardy if they do not complete the project by January 1st. If this deadline is missed, a majority of the stakeholders with contracts to ship oil through the pipeline will be able to renegotiate or cancel their contracts. This could be devastating to Energy Transfer Partners and the other pipeline companies behind DAPL.

This is an unprecedented and historic moment for indigenous people and life on this planet. This is a time to stand for justice and against white supremacy, with one of the boldest acts of resistance taken in this country in living memory.

Please plan to join us, and spread the word.
